The California Legislature is back in session, and I am ready to BRING IT in 2026! Team Menjivar and I started off strong from DAY ONE, I was honored to be appointed CHAIR OF THE SENATE DEMOCRATIC CAUCUS by our new pro Tem Monique Limón, and in the first week we heard the Governor’s STATE OF THE STATE. Welcome back, everyone!
Legislative Update
SENATE BILL 729 - Health Plan Coverage for Infertility Services, was enacted on January 1! Large group health care plans in California, 100 or more employees, are now required to provide coverage for infertility care, including IVF. Individuals are encouraged to check with their health plans directly to confirm benefits and to learn how to access those benefits. Read more HERE.

In the Community
JANUARY 7 marked a somber anniversary in Los Angeles, one year since the devastating Palisades and Eaton fires that tore through our neighboring communities. These fires stole the lives of loved ones, homes, and generations of memories. The Hurst fire threatened to do the same in Sylmar, but it was quickly contained thanks to the heroic response by LAFD. Thank you to every single person who sprang into action, donating, volunteering and lending a helping hand, and proving we are one Los Angeles.

With the new Low-Income Fare is Easy (LIFE) Program, METRO riders may qualify for fare discounts or 20 free rides with participating transit agencies! Find details and apply HERE.

On the first Saturday of every month, Burbank Temporary Aid Center has expanded their services for low-income, housed Burbank residents with a food distribution and utility assistance clinic. Application to the program is required. Email tblok@thebtac.org for more details.

The CALIFORNIA DMV is proactively taking steps to ensure REAL IDs are compliant and notifying some individuals that they must take action to keep their REAL ID valid.
