Prop 1 funding for behavioral health treatment facilities and services comes to the San Fernando Valley

Prop 1 is already bringing billions of dollars in funding to California communities for the creation of residential treatment beds and outpatient treatment slots, expanding access to urgently required care for mental health conditions and substance use disorders.

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY, CA - Senator Caroline Menjivar (D-San Fernando Valley) applauds the announcement that six behavioral health service providers in Senate District 20 have been granted Prop 1 Round 1 funding under the Behavioral Health Continuum Infrastructure Program established by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS). These funds will support launch-ready projects, administered by community-serving organizations, to swiftly address the behavioral health crisis for seriously ill and un-housed Californians.

“By investing directly within the neighborhoods of those who need access to treatment beds, we are building the infrastructure for long term and sustainable success in treating Californians with severe mental health and substance use disorders,” said Senator Caroline Menjivar, Chair of the Senate Health Committee. “Community-driven solutions increase the timeliness of care, foster cultural competency, and keep people close to their loved ones. I am grateful that round 1 funding will serve the people of the San Fernando Valley who find themselves in crisis, and the Valley, a place historically overlooked in policy conversations, is being prioritized in our state’s expansive behavioral health initiatives. I’m extremely proud to represent organizations that are on the front lines of addressing these issues. ”
