Senator Caroline Menjivar Announces the 3rd Annual San Fernando Valley Pride March & Festival, Rooted in Resistance

Van Nuys, CA- Senator Caroline Menjivar (D-San Fernando Valley) proudly announces the 3rd Annual San Fernando Valley Pride March & Festival, Rooted in Resistance, on June 28, 2025. The event is hosted in partnership with Mayor Karen Bass, Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, and Somos Familia Valle.

Last year, Senator Caroline Menjivar's fight for equity and inclusivity for LGBTQ+ individuals catapulted SB 729 through the legislative process and into law. This bill mandates large group health plans to provide coverage for fertility services, modernizes the law to now include IVF, and eliminates discriminatory barriers to infertility services for LGBTQ+ folks. Senator Menjivar continues to champion legislation that upholds the rights and well-being of the LGBTQ+ community. This year she is authoring SB 450 to reaffirm California’s jurisdiction over adoption proceedings by ensuring LGBTQ+ parents, regardless of their current residency, can legally establish their parental rights if their child was born in California. Senator Menjivar remains committed to uplifting the voices of her LGBTQ+ family in Sacramento and in Senate District 20, her annual San Fernando Valley Pride being the pinnacle event of these efforts.

“This year’s San Fernando Valley Pride is Rooted in Resistance against the attacks on our rights, the erasure of our history, the denial of our identities, and the withholding of our health care,” said Senator Caroline Menjivar, MSW. “LGBTQ+ people have always existed in every country, in every culture, and during every time in history, and we resist going back to a time when our existence was disregarded. As Californians, we will continue to advance the progress of justice and equality for our LGBTQ+ community and set an inescapable example for the entire country. March with me on June 28th, and remind the Valley that the achievements of the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement have always been rooted in resistance.”

“At a time where LGBTQ+ identities, stories and histories are under attack, the City of Los Angeles will always stand for unity and diversity, celebrating the vibrancy that lives throughout our City,” said Mayor Karen Bass. “It is my honor to stand with Senator Menjivar to celebrate the third annual San Fernando Valley Pride. This year's theme of Rooted in Resistance speaks to the resilience and determination of the LGBTQ+ community to live proudly and freely.”

“The San Fernando Valley has long been home to a vibrant and resilient LGBTQ+ community,” said Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath. “SFV Pride is a bold reminder that visibility is power, and community is our strength. In a moment where hard-fought rights are under attack across the country, join us on June 28th as we take to the streets of Van Nuys to stand proudly with our LGBTQ+ neighbors. As your Supervisor, I remain committed to ensuring all of our LGBTQ+ communities in the Valley and across the County are seen, supported, and free to be who they are, today and every day.”

"Pride in the San Fernando Valley is not just a dream for few, it is the fierce, unyielding demand for dignity, equity, and love for all. We stand proud, fight hard, and never let anyone silence our voice or right to exist authentically." - Kevin Al Perez, Co-Founder/ President Somos Familia Valle

Senator Menjivar will kick off San Fernando Valley Pride at 11 AM with a Rally at Van Nuys Blvd. and Gault St. Then, we’re going to get loud as we March down Van Nuys Blvd., showing the San Fernando Valley the united community standing Rooted in Resistance with our LGBTQ+ neighbors.
