Happy Holidays, Burbank and San Fernando Valley! Broadcast Details: Tuesday, December 10 5 PM

Welcome, Burbank & San Fernando Valley Friends!

Dear Neighbor,

I cannot believe that we have reached the end of our second year together, Senate District 20! Some days it feels like time flew by in an instant. Other days, when I reflect on all we have accomplished, it feels like we have been fighting alongside each other for decades. We are proud of everything our coalitions in the Capitol and efforts in the communities achieved this year.

We didn’t win them all, but that is what new years are for. Whether you join me in Sacramento or in the district, let’s keep up our strength to face whatever old or new challenges come our way in 2025. I believe in YOU and the unstoppable momentum of our progress in Burbank and the San Fernando Valley!

Standing with you always,

Senator Caroline Menjivar, MSW

A Look Back on 2024!

  • Visiting small businesses in SD 20 (I even got a tattoo during small business week!), and protecting the most vulnerable microenterprises with SB 1103.
  • I was hands-on serious about housing during Habitat for Humanity and California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls’ annual Women Build. Habitat LA and I also partnered for our Homeownership Education Resource Event in San Fernando.
  • After two years of persistent work on SB 729, and many years of efforts by advocates and my fellow legislators, millions of Californians under large group health plans (50 employees or more) will have coverage for fertility care, including in vitro fertilization! We also ended the legal discrimination against LGBTQ+ and unpartnered folks that excluded them from coverage.
  • Our first community cleanup, in partnership with Caltrans, was in Sun Valley.
  • Not only did I preside over a Senate floor session for the first time, I was granted the privilege another 15 times!
  • Bringing the voices of the people of San Fernando Valley to Sacramento enabled us to pass a statewide ban on leaded aviation fuel!
  • It was my honor to be the commencement speaker at SEVEN graduation ceremonies.
  • The 2nd Annual San Fernando Valley Pride March and Block Party was bigger and louder than ever before!
  • We built connections among the unions serving SD 20 workers during my Labor Union Leaders Luncheon.
  • 162 Capitol and District meetings with advocacy groups, 562 community events attended by Team Menjivar, 56 tours of organizations and facilities, and 19 events hosted in SD 20!

Senate District 20 Little Known Fact

If the San Fernando Valley was a separate city, we would be the fifth largest city in the United States! With census data showing Valley population over 1.8 million, that would put us far ahead of Phoenix, Philadelphia, San Antonio, San Diego and Dallas, the cities with between 1-2 million residents. Also, of the 62,818 veterans estimated to live in the City of Los Angeles, approximately 39,590 call San Fernando Valley home!
