Governor Newsom signs SB 1193 Banning the Sale of Leaded Aviation Fuel
SACRAMENTO - Senator Caroline Menjivar (D- San Fernando Valley) made the following statement after Governor Newsom signed Senate Bill 1193, banning the sale of leaded aviation fuel in California beginning January 1, 2031.
"We are banning the sale of leaded aviation fuel in California! SB 1193 is the culmination of decades of work by grassroots activists within the communities which have endured overt polluting of their neighborhoods for generations. Over the years, I have stood on the front lines with those fighting against environmental hazards in our San Fernando Valley communities. And I’m proud, that in my second year as State Senator, I have delivered on a key campaign promise; to fight for improved air quality in Senate District 20, a place historically plagued by prolific contaminates.
Thank you to the coalition partners, with boots on the ground and who came to Sacramento to make their voices heard. Thank you, Governor Newsom, for standing with us and signing SB 1193. We worked hard with stakeholders and the opposition, while never compromising our ultimate goal, and now we have an executable path to ridding California of the dangers of leaded aviation fuel."
