Firestorm Updates

As your representative in the State Senate, I am focused on keeping you informed regarding the devastating fires that are affecting San Fernando Valley communities in the district and the greater Southern California region, particularly those in the communities of Sylmar, Lakeview Terrace, Sunland Tujunga, and Burbank.

The Hurst Fire, which started yesterday, is currently 0% contained and is still a major threat to residents and communities.  California is continuing to mobilize resources and has already secured federal assistance to support the prompt response to the Hurst Fire.

I will continue to keep you updated as I receive additional information on this and other neighboring wildfires.

The Los Angeles Unified School District has closed a number of schools due to fire and wind dangers.  Caltrans District 7 is also providing real-time information regarding freeway and other transportation-related closure impacts.  As of 11:00am today, highways are being FULLY CLOSED at various locations due to fires or wind-related incidents. Caltrans District 7 requests that you limit your non-essential travel and stay away from the areas.  The list of current highway closures in Caltrans District 7 is available here

Also, the CHP Southern Division / L.A. County notes that westbound I-210 mainline lanes are now open.  The northbound I-5 truck lanes to northbound I-5 / SR-14 and the westbound I-210 truck lanes to northbound I-5 / SR-14 will remain closed until further notice due to a brush fire.

The Los Angeles Fire Department has other important information on its website.
