In Sacramento, Team Menjivar and I will go the distance as we work tirelessly to get my bills to the Governor’s desk by THIS Friday! The draconian cuts to health care funding, coupled with the mental health toll and fear around keeping medical appointments due to immigration raids, are a very real threat to Californians’ well-being. This is why I held a Joint Informational Hearing, with Assembly Health Chair Assemblywoman Bonta, on the interconnectedness of federal action & community health. The LA County Department of Public Health is continuing the fight against COVID-19 and substance misuse. They have placed accessible kiosks throughout the County that dispense FREE COVID-19 test kits, overdose prevention products, and condoms to the public! FIND a Health Station near you.

In collaboration with SALEF, Congresswoman Luz Rivas, LAUSD Board Member Kelly Gonez and Parks Chapel AME Church, I hosted a Citizenship Workshop to help families on their path to citizenship. I also convened local clergy and faith leaders for an important roundtable on immigration, ensuring that during these difficult times our communities are connected and supported by a strong coalition. 

Team Menjivar joined UTLA and CHIRLA to adopt Van Nuys High School, where they welcomed students and parents back to campus on the first day of instruction!

While California can boast the 4th largest economy in the world, it could not be done without the entrepreneurship of our small businesses. In recognition of your immense contributions, California has an entire department devoted to helping businesses – GOBiz. They provide grants, education, publications, permit assistance, and so much more. Also, don’t forget the resources through the Small Business Administration, which assists with small business loans, mentoring from business professionals, and special programs for women and veteran owned businesses.
