Press Release

2nd Annual San Fernando Valley Pride March & Block Party

San Fernando Valley, it’s time to show our pride!

VAN NUYS, CA - Senator Caroline Menjivar (D- San Fernando Valley) proudly announces the 2nd Annual San Fernando Valley Pride March & Block Party on Saturday, June 29, 2024. The event is hosted in collaboration with Los Angeles City Mayor Karen Bass and community partner Somos Familia Valle.

This is the only 1 mile street closure Pride March in the San Fernando Valley, and will showcase the power of our diverse and extensive LGBTQ+ community in the 818.

During Senator Menjivar’s two years in office, she has not only firmly established SFV Pride as an annual tradition, but she is also fighting for justice and equity for LGBTQ+ folks through the legislative process. Last year, Senate Bill 372 - Respect for Names Act was signed into law by the Governor, eliminating the use of deadnames at the Department of Consumer Affairs for licensed professionals who have legally changed their names. Senator Menjivar’s two-year bill, Senate Bill 729, is currently in Assembly Appropriations. It will require large group health plans to cover fertility services, change the current discriminatory law for equitable inclusion of LGBTQ+ folks, and bring the law up to date on medical advancements in IVF and its uses. This year, she is authoring Senate Bill 959 to establish a California Health and Human Services Agency website that provides comprehensive information and resources to support transgender, gender diverse, and intersex individuals and their families in accessing trans-inclusive health care and services.

San Fernando Valley Pride is a momentous achievement for those of us who grew up in the Valley and have longed for LGBTQ+ visibility here, among our neighbors and families,” states Senator Caroline Menjivar. “Coming together for SFV Pride shows our youth and our Black and brown communities that the Valley is a safe and united place for all. I can’t wait to march with you on June 29!

“As a city that proudly stands for representation, unity and community, Los Angeles continues to be a supporter of our vibrant LGBTQ+ community,” said Mayor Karen Bass. “The San Fernando Valley PRIDE is an important part of how we celebrate the City’s diversity and beauty, and we are proud to step up and support this year’s PRIDE in the Valley for Angelenos and visitors to enjoy.”

"In the San Fernando Valley we celebrate #SFVPride to remind us that we exist, thrive, and are leaders in our communities. LGBTQ+ people flourish in our neighborhoods, businesses, classrooms, and families throughout the valley. It is important to combat hate & empower queer spaces across the valley because we lack resources where countless youth and marginalized community members need access to services and care. United we could create endless possibilities." - Kevin Al Perez, Co-Founder/ President  Somos Familia Valley

Senator Menjivar will kick-off San Fernando Valley Pride with an 11 AM rally at Van Nuys Blvd. and Gault St. At noon, the March will proceed down Van Nuys Blvd. to the Van Nuys Civic Center at 14410 Sylvan St. The Block Party begins at 1 PM and will feature a resource fair, constituent services from local electeds, live entertainment, food market, art and healing activities, kids zone, and more.
