Senator Leyva Honors Fairplex in Pomona as “Nonprofit of the Year”
SACRAMENTO – Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) is proud to recognize Fairplex in Pomona as the 2021 20th State Senate District “Nonprofit of the Year”.
Fairplex is a “nonprofit, 501(c)5 organization that leads a 487-acre campus proudly located in the City of Pomona. Fairplex exists in a public-private partnership with the County of Los Angeles and is home of the L.A. County Fair and more than 500 year-round events.” (1) Led by Interim CEO Walter M. Marquez, the nonprofit has offered extensive community oriented services for many years, though those efforts have been particularly noteworthy during the COVID-19 pandemic. Beyond providing childcare services to first responders and other essential workers, the Fairplex has additionally served as the site of both drive-thru COVID-19 testing and a mass vaccination center, as well as offered food, supplies and other resources to residents in the region. Notably, Fairplex has also recently hosted a temporary emergency intake site housing unaccompanied minors coming to the United States from other countries.
“Though it has always been a great community partner, the Fairplex has truly stepped up during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide vital resources to residents and families across the greater region,” Senator Leyva said. “I so appreciate the Fairplex’s collaboration with Team Leyva over the years and we look forward to working together for many years to come. I am proud to recognize Fairplex as the 2021 20th State Senate District ‘Nonprofit of the Year’.”
Senator Leyva acknowledged Fairplex as her “Nonprofit of the Year” as part of ‘California Nonprofits Day’ virtual recognitions occurring statewide by state legislators in both the California State Senate and California State Assembly.
