Senator Leyva to Lead Select Committee on Mobile Homes
Will Convene Several Town Hall Hearings, Public Events
SACRAMENTO – Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) has selected and the Senate Rules Committee approved Senator Connie M. Leyva (D-Chino) to serve as Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Manufactured Home Communities. Senator Leyva has also been selected as the Senate designee to the California Department of Housing and Community Development’s Mobilehome Park Inspection Program Task Force.
The Select Committee explores issues relating to manufactured homes, mobile homes and prefabricated structures and is tasked with providing legislative recommendations for resolving problems in the many associated areas it oversees. Those corollary areas may include the manufacture, sales and financing of units, health and safety code enforcement, land use and affordable housing issues.
Senator Leyva will convene several town hall hearings in the months ahead to explore timely issues under the jurisdiction of the Select Committee. Previously, the Select Committee has held hearings on mobile home park inspections, management problems, earthquake safety and condo conversions.
“As I represent approximately 25,000 residents in over 120 mobile home parks in the 20th State Senate District, I am excited to lead this important Select Committee as we work to improve the quality of life, safety and development of these communities throughout California.” Senator Leyva said. “I look forward to actively engaging with owners, residents and other interested stakeholders to ensure that the Legislature remains informed as we consider potential legislation, policy and regulations that impact people locally. I am eager to hear directly from constituents and residents as we provide several avenues for public input and engagement.”
