On Saturday, March 11, 2017, Senator Leyva hosted a successful "Coffee with the Senator" event at the George White Senior Center in Fontana. Assemblymember Eloise Gomez Reyes participated as the event's special guest. Senator Leyva hosted a Free Grant Writing Workshop on Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Pomona Unified School District in partnership with California Consulting LLC and Pomona Promise. Approximately 80 participants attended the successful workshop from throughout the Inland Empire. California Consulting CEO Steve Samuelian facilitated the highly anticipated training and spoke about key ingredients that go into a successful grant writing process, as well as information that grant writers should know before selecting grants to which they wish to apply.
On Friday, December 16, 2016, Senator hosted her Second Annual Holiday Open House at her San Bernardino district office. Community residents came out to meet the Senator and her staff, as well as to discuss issues important to them and their families. Many local dignitaries attended the festive event, including Assemblymember Eloise Reyes, San Bernardino Mayor R. Carey Davis, San Bernardino Community College District Trustee Frank Reyes and the Consuls of Mexico and Guatemala in San Bernardino.
Senator Connie M. Leyva celebrated the month of giving thanks and appreciation by hosting her 2nd Annual Operation Gobble where she distributed 700 turkeys and chickens along with 100 individual family meal bags to residents throughout her Senate district. Her efforts were made possible through partnerships with UFCW Local 1428, Fontana Water Company, Golden State Water Company and Stater Bros.

Over 150 attendees from throughout the 20th State Senate District benefited from the presentations of individuals who invested their time and expertise to explain life lessons they had learned outside of their traditional academic experience.

Senator Connie M. Leyva kicked off her fall Career Day with Connie on Friday, September 30, 2016 at Kucera Middle School in Rialto. Career Day volunteer speakers were greeted by the warm smiles of student ambassadors and school staff, including Principal Monique Conway. All classrooms were abuzz with volunteers speaking on career pathways ranging from landscape architecture and firefighting to public affairs and working for the Dodgers organization. Speakers left reinvigorated by the energy and enthusiasm of the Kucera Middle School students.
Senator Leyva--in partnership with the Mexican Consulate, Guatemalan Consulate, Inland Empire Latino Lawyers Association, and the Pomona Economic Opportunity Center--hosted a citizenship fair in Pomona on Saturday, September 17, 2016. On Friday, September 16, Senator Leyva called to order an informational hearing of the Senate Select Committee on Manufactured Home Communities. The subject of the hearing was “Improving Mobilehome Parks through Education and Licensing of Property Managers.” As chair of the committee, Senator Leyva asked questions and led the three-hour discussion.
